Official Observer Coordinator - Loren Albright, W1UV

My  name is Loren Albright, W1UV. I am the Official Observer Coordinator (OOC) for New  Hampshire. My job is to supervise the maintenance and  monitoring work of the section's  Official Observers OOs and to coordinate special Amateur Auxiliary efforts with  Headquarters and the SM. The Amateur Auxiliary program is based on a formal agreement between the FCC and the ARRL. The function of the OO is to listen for amateurs who might otherwise come to the  attention of the FCC and to advise them by mail of the irregularity observed. OOs are helpers and advisors, not "band cops." We also monitor cases involving  serious rule violations, such as malicious interference, and are trained and certified to gather and forward evidence that can be used by the FCC in  enforcement actions. We also monitor for good performance. When we hear an  amateur doing something right or good, like advising a new amateur on a  technical or operating  matter, we  can send Good Operator Reports to that amateur noting their good  example. We are always looking for new OOs. If you are interested you can apply at  www.arrl.org/official-observer-1. The requirements are listed there. I would also ask that you have your EC send a recommendation to the SM. Note - Not all applications are accepted. Acceptance into the OO program is at the sole discretion of the SM and OOC. About myself. I was first licensed in Monroe, MI in 1968. I was heavily involved in Monroe  County's ARES until my transfer to NH in 1975. This began a long period of only sporadic activity. In 2008, after a near fatal motorcycle accident, I re-equipped and jumped in ARES again. I am now an AEC and Net Manager for W. Rock ARES. Several years ago after assisting several  MA repeater groups with a serious intentional interference problem, Al asked me to be an OO and later promoted me to OOC. I  live in Atkinson with my wife and daughter and have been an Electrical Engineer for Enterasys Networks, recently relocated to Salem, for 26 years. I've also recently acquired a taste for chasing DX. You can reach me at w1uv@arrl.net.
